PUP.Optional.ShiftBrowser

ThreatDown is now the name of the Malwarebytes line of business products. References to Malwarebytes below reflect the amazing technology used to first identify the threat.

Short bio

PUP.Optional.ShiftBrowser is Malwarebytes’ detection name for a potentially unwanted program called “Shift Browser.”

Type of infection

The browser is promoted through confusing advertisements on sites where people might search for manuals, recipes, templates, and other popular documents.

Protection

Malwarebytes blocks the downloader that fetches the actual installer, so users can make an informed decision about the install. It does not block the full installer which users might have downloaded from the official site.
